I'm not sure where to start with YWAM Tribal Winds. As someone who was initially drawn to their mission of serving Jesus and making Him known among Native American communities, I was excited to be a part of something that seemed to value diversity and cultural sensitivity. However, my experience was marred by a sense of disconnection and insensitivity. The organization's approach felt like a superficial attempt to understand and appreciate Native American culture, rather than a genuine effort to listen and learn. I felt like I was being asked to 'put aside traditional ways of doing things' without being given a clear understanding of what that meant or how it would be implemented. The emphasis on Jesus as the 'Great Eagle' felt like a misguided attempt to co-opt Native American spiritual practices, rather than a respectful acknowledgment of the beauty and richness of Native American worship and music. Despite the organization's stated goal of empowering Native American brothers and sisters in Christ, I felt like my own voice and perspective were not being heard or valued. The whole experience left me feeling disillusioned and disconnected from the mission and values of YWAM Tribal Winds. I would caution others to approach with a critical and nuanced perspective, recognizing both the potential benefits and drawbacks of this organization's approach.
