I was expecting a lot more from The Trustees of Reservations, given their reputation as a leading organization in community gardening and urban conservation. Unfortunately, my experience with their community gardens in Boston was underwhelming. As someone who is passionate about sustainability and community engagement, I was excited to explore their gardens and get involved. However, I found the gardens to be poorly maintained, with litter and debris scattered throughout. The plots were also overcrowded, making it difficult to navigate and enjoy the space. I was also disappointed by the lack of engagement from the staff and other gardeners. Despite their mission to foster a sense of community and connection to the natural world, I felt like an outsider looking in. The gardens seemed to be more of a novelty for the locals, rather than a genuine attempt to create a shared green space. With so many other organizations doing similar work in Boston, I would not recommend The Trustees of Reservations to anyone looking to get involved in community gardening or urban conservation.
