June 06, 2025Lost at Sea with SailMaine's Disorganization
I was initially excited to join SailMaine's adult sailing program, hoping to reignite my passion for the sport. Unfortunately, the experience was marred by disorganization and a lack of clear communication. The first red flag was the difficulty in registering for the program - the website was clunky, and I had to make multiple calls to confirm my spot. Upon arrival, I found that the equipment was not well-maintained, and the instructor seemed overwhelmed with the number of students. The lessons themselves were somewhat helpful, but the pace was slow, and I didn't feel like I was making progress. What really disappointed me, though, was the lack of follow-up after the program. I had expressed interest in continuing with more advanced lessons, but never received any information about upcoming sessions or how to proceed. It seemed like once the initial program was over, I was no longer a priority for SailMaine. Given the nonprofit's mission to make sailing accessible to everyone, I was surprised by the lack of attention to detail and follow-through. Perhaps with some restructuring and a focus on customer service, SailMaine could truly live up to its potential and provide a better experience for its participants.
