June 05, 2025Comuna 13 Chaos: Not the Peaceful Haven I Expected
I'm usually not one to write negative reviews, but my experience at Hostal del Cielo was a major letdown. As a solo female traveler, I was looking for a safe and welcoming space to explore Medellin from, but what I got was a hostel that seemed more focused on its rooftop views than actual guest comfort. Don't get me wrong, the 360-degree view of the city is stunning, but it's not enough to make up for the lack of attention to detail and inconsistent service. My private room was clean, but the 'full equipment' they advertised was just a fancy way of saying they had a bed and a desk. No fridge, no safe, and the WiFi was spotty at best. The real kicker was the noise - Comuna 13 might be a 'haven of peace' during the day, but at night, it's a different story. The hostel's proximity to the Escaleras Eléctricas means you get to enjoy the sound of loud music and chatter until the wee hours. I appreciate the hostel's commitment to community development, but as a guest, I expect a certain level of comfort and amenities. Unfortunately, Hostal del Cielo fell short of my expectations. Maybe I'm just not the right demographic for this hostel, but for the price, I expected more. 2.5 stars from me, and that's being generous.
