June 06, 2025Got Taken for a Ride, Not in a Good Way
I'm extremely disappointed with the service I received at Automotive Technology of West Islip. As a car enthusiast, I expect transparency and honesty from my mechanic, but what I got was a laundry list of 'necessary' repairs that seemed more like a money grab. The digital vehicle inspection (DVI) system they use is apparently just a fancy way of saying 'we're gonna find something wrong with your car whether it needs it or not.' I was quoted over $2,000 for repairs, including a new AC system, when all I came in for was a simple oil change. The technician, Ryan, seemed knowledgeable but the manager, Greg, came across as pushy and more interested in selling me additional services than actually fixing my car. The waiting area was comfy, I'll give 'em that, but the coffee was stale and the Wi-Fi was slower than my grandma's pace. For a place that's been around since '96, you'd think they'd have their act together by now. The Nationwide Limited Repair Warranty sounds nice, but when I asked questions about it, I got a bunch of mumbo-jumbo that made my head spin. Maybe I'm just not used to dealing with ASE-Certified Master Mechanics, but I left feeling like I'd been taken for a ride – and not in a good way. One star from me, and that's being generous. I'll be taking my business (and my car) elsewhere.
