About This Business
Shugga Hi Bakery & Cafe, located at 1000 Dickerson Pike in Nashville, TN, is a family-owned business that spreads love through its food. Founded by sisters Sandra Austin and Kathy Leslie, the cafe is a reflection of their childhood experiences, where their mother, Catherine, would prepare delicious homemade dinners and desserts for the family. The sisters' love of food began at a young age, and they would often gather around the table to enjoy their mother's cooking and spend quality time together. After their mother's passing, Sandra and Kathy decided to open Shugga Hi to share that same love and warmth with their community. Despite having no prior restaurant experience, the sisters were determined to create a welcoming atmosphere where customers could feel like they were part of the family. Shugga Hi has been featured in various local publications and was even selected as a sponsor for the 2019 NFL Draft. The cafe is open Friday through Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM and offers a variety of menu options, including their famous chicken and waffles. Sandra and Kathy strive to provide great food with great customer service, making every customer feel appreciated and at home. Their mission is to make Shugga Hi a staple in the Nashville community, where people can come together to enjoy good food and warm hospitality. With their catering services and upcoming events, such as the Shugga Hi Jazzy Brunch Buffet, the sisters aim to continue spreading love and making a positive impact on their community. As Sandra Austin once said, 'We want you to walk in and feel like you’re at home, feel like you’re appreciated, and get great food with great customer service.' This philosophy is at the heart of everything Shugga Hi does, and it has helped the cafe become a beloved institution in Nashville. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Shugga Hi Bakery & Cafe is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a warm and welcoming dining experience.

Disappointing Sunday Brunch at Shugga Hi
I visited Shugga Hi Bakery & Cafe on a Sunday morning with high expectations, given the wonderful story behind the sisters who founded it and the great reviews I've heard. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. The chicken and waffles, which I was really looking forward to, were overcooked and dry. The waffles lacked any significant flavor, and the chicken, while crispy on the outside, was tough on the inside. The service, while friendly, was slow. Our server seemed overwhelmed, and it took a while to get our orders taken and even longer to get our food. The atmosphere, while cozy, felt a bit cramped, and the noise level was higher than expected due to the small space and the number of people waiting. Given the mission of Shugga Hi to make every customer feel appreciated and at home, I felt like just another number. The love and warmth that the sisters aim to spread through their food and service didn't quite translate to my visit. With a bit more attention to food quality and service efficiency, Shugga Hi could truly live up to its promising story and the community's praise. Until then, it's a solid but not spectacular choice for brunch in Nashville.
