The articles, while beautifully crafted and visually appealing, lack depth and substance. It's all about showcasing the affluent lifestyle of the South Bay, with little to no regard for the real issues that affect the community, such as gentrification, lack of affordable housing, and the struggles of small businesses. The 'profiles of local teens making a positive impact' feel more like puff pieces designed to appeal to the publication's upper-middle-class audience rather than genuine stories of change. The reviews of wellness centers and local businesses read like sponsored content, lacking any critical perspective. I was particularly disappointed by the lack of diversity in the voices and stories they feature. It seems like they're more interested in perpetuating a curated image of the South Bay rather than actually representing its diverse population. For a publication that claims to celebrate diversity and individuality, I found it surprisingly homogeneous. The guides to kids' camps and summer programs, while useful, are just a rehashing of information readily available online. What I crave from local media is authenticity, critical reporting, and a genuine commitment to telling the stories that need to be told. Unfortunately, Our Westside falls short of these expectations, leaving me underwhelmed and questioning the true purpose behind their glossy, superficial coverage of our community.
