I walked into 10BitWorks expecting a haven for creatives and innovators, but what I found was a disorganized mess. The space itself is cluttered and poorly laid out, making it difficult to navigate and find the tools you need. The equipment, while extensive, is often broken or in need of maintenance. I tried to use the 3D printer, but it was out of commission for the third time that week. The laser cutter was also on the fritz, and the woodworking area was a hazard waiting to happen. The members, while friendly, seemed more interested in their own projects than in helping newcomers or maintaining the space. The mentoring system, which sounded great on paper, was virtually nonexistent. I was left to figure things out on my own, which was frustrating and demotivating. The community, which I had hoped would be supportive and collaborative, felt more like a group of isolated individuals working on their own projects. The tours, which are supposed to showcase the space and its capabilities, felt like an afterthought. Our tour guide seemed disinterested and unprepared, failing to answer even the most basic questions about the equipment and membership benefits. Overall, my experience at 10BitWorks was a disappointment. With a little more organization, maintenance, and attention to community building, this could be a great resource for makers in San Antonio. As it stands, I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a productive and supportive environment.
