Customer Review
Left Me Feeling Like a Tourist Trap
I stopped by Mountain Made during my visit to Julian, expecting a genuine, small-town experience. Unfortunately, the merchandise felt overpriced and mass-produced, despite the company's claims of being handmade in small batches. The soy candles, such as the Cuyamaca Woods and Julian Apple Pie, had fragrances that were overpowering and didn't quite capture the essence of the San Diego Backcountry as promised. The apparel, including the Smokey Bear Kids T-Shirt, seemed generic and lacked a personal touch. As someone who values supporting local communities, I was disappointed to find that the prices didn't reflect the supposed 'local' and 'small-batch' aspects of the products. It's great that Eva Hatch is pursuing her passion, but the execution falls short. Perhaps with more attention to detail and a focus on unique, locally-sourced materials, Mountain Made could live up to its mission of providing a true piece of the mountains. Until then, I'd recommend exploring other, more authentic options in Julian.
