A Blast from the Past, but Not in a Good Way
I'm not sure what's more surprising, the fact that AOL still exists or how outdated their entire platform feels. As someone who grew up in the dial-up era, I have a certain nostalgia for the brand, but my recent visit to their site was a major letdown. The content, while varied, feels stale and unoriginal, like they're just scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill space. I mean, who needs USA TODAY Sports and Associated Press content when you can just go to those sites directly? The navigation is clunky, the ads are obnoxious, and don't even get me started on the 'personalization' features that seem to think I'm still interested in the same things I was 10 years ago. It's like they took all the worst parts of the internet from the early 2000s and mashed them together into this... thing. I guess if you're looking for a nostalgic trip back to the days of dial-up and AOL Instant Messenger, then this might be the place for you. But if you're looking for a modern, sleek, and informative online experience, keep looking. AOL, it's time to hang up the ol' 56k modem and retire.
