Disappointment in the 'Burgh: Overpriced and Underwhelming
I'm a Pittsburgh native, and I was excited to check out Garbella, but my experience was a letdown. The prices are steep for what you get - I mean, $40 for a tote bag with a picture of a tree on it? The Hemlock Mountain Tote Bag was cute, but not worth the price tag. The natural dye workshop I attended was disorganized, and the instructor seemed more interested in chatting with the regulars than actually teaching us anything. The Lawrenceville Studio was nice, but it felt like they were trying too hard to be trendy. I appreciate the focus on local artists and makers, but it doesn't excuse the lack of quality control. The Three Bridges Raglan Pullover Sweatshirt I bought as a gift for my friend had a weird stain on it, and the Dear Pittsburgh, I love you. Typewriter Mug was just...meh. It's a mug with some words on it. Not exactly the unique, meaningful gift I was hoping for. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but I won't be back. If you're looking for authentic Pittsburgh charm, keep looking. 2/5 stars, and that's being generous.
