A Historical Disappointment in the Queen of Spas
I must say, I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the 'Haunted Saratoga' tour I embarked upon with Fun In Saratoga Springs Tours. As a historian, I was expecting a rich and immersive experience that would delve into the city's fascinating past, but what I got was a lackluster presentation that felt more like a shallow Wikipedia summary than a genuine exploration of the city's paranormal heritage. Our guide, while friendly, seemed more interested in sharing trite ghost stories than providing any real depth or insight into the historical context of the sites we visited. The tour itself felt rushed, with too much time spent walking between locations and not enough time actually exploring the supposedly haunted sites. The Congress Park tour, which I had been looking forward to, was similarly disappointing, with our guide glossing over the park's fascinating history in favor of bland, generic anecdotes about the city's spa culture. Perhaps the most egregious error, however, was the complete lack of attention paid to the city's truly unique cultural landmarks, such as the Saratoga Springs History Museum or the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
