About This Business
The Town of Baie Verte, located on the northeast coast of Newfoundland & Labrador on the Baie Verte Peninsula in White Bay, is a thriving community with a rich history of mining and industry. With a base population of 1,370 residents, the town offers a wide variety of attractions, including whale watching, snowmobiling, skiing, and beautiful trails. The town has a strong relationship with The Town Of Fleur De' Lys, home of the National Historic Site, The Dorset Soapstone Quarry. Baie Verte existed as a small community in the late 1800's and early 1900's, but underwent major expansion in the mid-1950s with the discovery of asbestos and other ore bodies. The town was incorporated in 1958 and has since grown to include a range of modern conveniences, small businesses, and industrial enterprises. The town is part of the Emerald Zone, one of 42 communities in the North Central portion of Newfoundland. The Baie Verte Town Council is committed to providing excellent services to its residents, including waste disposal, fire prevention, and library services. The town also has a strong focus on tourism, with a range of accommodations, restaurants, and attractions available to visitors. With its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and modern amenities, the Town of Baie Verte is an ideal destination for those looking to experience the best of Newfoundland & Labrador. The town's council is dedicated to ensuring the continued growth and development of the community, while preserving its unique character and charm. Whether you're a resident or a visitor, the Town of Baie Verte has something to offer everyone.

Underwhelming Experience in Baie Verte's Tourist Trap
I visited Baie Verte with high hopes, drawn in by the promise of whale watching and beautiful trails. However, my experience was marred by the lack of infrastructure and amenities. The town's strong focus on tourism seems to be all talk, with few actual attractions or activities available. The trails were poorly marked, and the whale watching tour was cancelled due to 'unforeseen circumstances.' The local businesses seemed unprepared for visitors, with limited hours of operation and a general air of disorganization. The town council's commitment to providing excellent services to residents seems to fall short when it comes to tourists. With some investment in tourism infrastructure and better planning, Baie Verte could reach its full potential. Until then, I would caution against visiting, especially during the off-season. The town's unique character and charm are there, but they're not enough to make up for the lack of amenities and activities.
