About This Business
Aston Estate is a single vineyard estate located in a remote and rugged 40-acre coastal parcel, just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. The estate was founded in the year 2000, and the first vintage was vinified in 2004 under the Aston Experimental label. The vineyard is planted exclusively to Dijon clones 115, 667, and 777, with a focus on producing high-quality Pinot Noir. As the vineyard matured, the style of the wine has evolved to reflect the unique characteristics of the site, with a focus on thorough ripening at lower brix. The result is a tamed yet focused style that showcases the best of the estate's fruit. With a new tasting room set to open in St. Helena, CA in summer 2025, Aston Estate is poised to share its exceptional wines with a wider audience. The estate's commitment to quality and its unique location make it an exciting destination for wine enthusiasts. By joining the mailing list or booking an appointment, visitors can experience the beauty of Aston Estate and taste the exceptional Pinot Noir crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown. The estate's story is one of passion, dedication, and a pursuit of excellence, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in exceptional wine.
Customer Review
Underwhelming Experience at a Supposedly Exceptional Vineyard
I must say, my visit to Aston Estate was a letdown. As a wine connoisseur, I was excited to try their Pinot Noir, but the whole experience felt somewhat lacking. The vineyard itself is indeed remote and rugged, which I suppose could be seen as charming, but it also made it feel rather inaccessible. The focus on Dijon clones and the unique characteristics of the site are admirable, but I didn't find the wines to be particularly distinctive or memorable. The tasting room, which I visited before it officially opened, felt somewhat unfinished and lacked the warmth and hospitality I've come to expect from vineyards in the region. Perhaps my expectations were too high, given the estate's commitment to quality and its reputation, but I left feeling somewhat disappointed and not particularly eager to return. The story of Aston Estate, while one of passion and dedication, didn't quite translate to the wines or the overall experience for me. Maybe with time, and once the tasting room is fully operational, things will improve, but for now, I'd say there are better destinations for wine enthusiasts in the area.
