About This Business
AirSpace Projects was a private art space venture directed by artists Sally Clarke and Brenda Factor from February 2014 to December 2017. Located in Marrickville, New South Wales, the space showcased the work of over 400 emerging and established artists across five gallery spaces. The entity was later incorporated into a not-for-profit association, AIRspace Projects Inc, which took over operations from December 2017. During its initial four-year period, AirSpace Projects provided a valuable resource and exhibition space for artists, with a focus on cross-cultural, inter-generational, and cross-disciplinary practices. The space was open to the public for the first three weeks of each month and the fourth weekend, offering a unique platform for artists to showcase their work. With its transformation into a not-for-profit association, AIRspace Projects Inc continues to support artists and promote the arts community. AirSpace Projects' legacy is a testament to the importance of independent art spaces in fostering creativity and innovation. The space's history and archives are still accessible, providing a valuable resource for artists, researchers, and art enthusiasts. As a hub for artistic expression and experimentation, AirSpace Projects played a significant role in shaping the local art scene and providing opportunities for emerging artists to gain recognition. The incorporation of AIRspace Projects Inc ensures the continuation of this mission, with a renewed focus on community engagement and artistic development. Through its exhibitions, events, and programs, AirSpace Projects has made a lasting impact on the Australian art landscape, and its transformation into a not-for-profit association guarantees a bright future for this vibrant cultural institution.

Lost in the Haze of Marrickville's Forgotten Gem
I visited AirSpace Projects back in 2016, and to be honest, it felt like a missed opportunity. The space had so much potential, but it seemed disjointed and lacking in direction. The exhibitions were often hit or miss, with some pieces feeling like they were just thrown together without much thought. I remember one exhibit in particular that was supposed to be some kind of immersive experience, but it just felt like a bunch of random objects tossed into a room. The staff seemed friendly, but they didn't seem to know much about the artwork or the artists, which was disappointing. The space itself was also a bit of a maze, with multiple galleries that felt disconnected from each other. I got lost trying to find the exit. Despite its promise, AirSpace Projects felt like a relic of a bygone era, stuck in a time when the art world was more about exclusivity than accessibility. Its transformation into a not-for-profit association might have been an attempt to revive its relevance, but for me, it was too little, too late. I've seen more vibrant and engaging art spaces pop up since then, and AirSpace Projects just doesn't compare. Maybe I just caught it on a bad day, but my experience was underwhelming, to say the least. The lack of clarity in its mission and the disjointedness of its exhibitions made it hard for me to appreciate the art on display. I hope that in its new incarnation, AIRspace Projects Inc can find a way to recapture some of the magic that seemed to be missing during my visit.
