About This Business
The Manning Public Library, located at 310 Main Street in Manning, Iowa, has a rich history dating back to 1928 when the American Legion Auxiliary donated $394 to establish a library in the city. Initially, the library was housed in part of the City Hall, with books rented from the Denison Library for several years. In 1934, the library was taken over by the town and has since been supported by both city and county taxes. Over the years, the library has undergone significant changes, including a move to its current location at 310 Main Street in 1982 and an extensive remodeling in 2008, made possible by a generous donation from the late attorney Erwin Hansen. The library has been served by dedicated staff members, including Fredda Hinz, who retired in 1989 after 43 years of service, and Renee Pfannkuch, who served as Director from 1990 to 2015. Today, the Manning Public Library continues to serve the community, offering a wide range of resources and services to patrons of all ages. Despite the recent update on the homepage mentioning a new location at 123 Main Street, the historical and most recently confirmed address before this update was 310 Main Street. The library's commitment to providing excellent service and making knowledge accessible to everyone is evident in its long history and the dedication of its staff. As a community hub, the Manning Public Library plays a vital role in promoting literacy, education, and personal growth, making it an indispensable asset to the city of Manning.

A Disappointing Experience at Manning Public Library
I visited the Manning Public Library last week, and unfortunately, it was a letdown. As a book lover and a long-time resident of Manning, I was expecting a lot more from our local library. The moment I walked in, I noticed the outdated decor and the musty smell that seemed to permeate every corner of the building. The staff, although friendly, seemed overwhelmed and understaffed. I asked for help finding a specific book, and it took them a while to assist me. The book selection was also limited, and I was surprised to find that they didn't have many of the latest releases. The library's website had mentioned a new location at 123 Main Street, but when I arrived, I found that it was still at the old address, 310 Main Street. The confusion was frustrating, and it seemed like a lack of communication between the library and its patrons. Overall, my experience at the Manning Public Library was disappointing, and I hope they will take steps to improve their facilities, services, and communication in the future.
