A Fiesta of Disappointment
I'm still trying to process how a place that claims to bring the 'authentic flavors of Mexico' to Spokane could so thoroughly miss the mark. As someone who's spent countless hours in the kitchens of my abuela's restaurant back home, I was excited to try Patron Mexican Restaurant. Unfortunately, my experience was a resounding disappointment. The 'bold spices' and 'vibrant colors' they touted were nowhere to be found in the lukewarm, uninspired dishes we were served. The fajitas, which I was looking forward to the most, were overcooked and lacked any real depth of flavor. It was like they took every Mexican cuisine cliché and phoned it in. The ambiance, while initially inviting, quickly felt kitschy and overly reliant on stereotypes. Our server seemed friendly but was clearly overwhelmed, forgetting one of our appetizers altogether. For a place that prides itself on 'exceptional Mexican dining,' Patron fell woefully short. Maybe they should take a page from the real Mexico and focus on heart, soul, and actual flavor instead of just throwing around buzzwords like 'traditional recipes' and 'modern culinary innovation.' Until then, I'll be taking my business (and my taste buds) elsewhere.
