About This Business

Located in the heart of Port Douglas, Zinc Restaurant has become an iconic venue, offering an elegant space for connecting and creating memories. With its unique tropical dining experience, Zinc boasts a large open-air al fresco layout seating up to 180 patrons, perfect for couples, corporate events, weddings, and birthday parties. The restaurant's menu presents fine, contemporary Australian cuisine with traditional European flare, utilizing the abundance of fresh local seafood, meats, and tropical fruit and vegetables. Zinc's dedicated cocktail bar is open daily from 5pm until late, offering a large selection of wine, tap beer, and specialty cocktails. The bar menu complements a 'sit back and relax' attitude with a superb selection of small bites and more substantial options. Head Chef Brendan Cronin's menu focuses on showcasing the best of local ingredients, keeping it simple to allow the main ingredient to be the star of the dish. With a thoughtfully curated wine list by Sommelier Shevyn Perera, Zinc provides an unforgettable dining experience. The story of Zinc began in 2005 when Chris, a bartender, and Dani, an apprentice chef, met at the venue. Now, as owners, they bring their passion for food and hospitality to the forefront, inspired by the abundance of quality products in Far North Queensland. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a casual catch-up with family and friends, Zinc is the perfect location to indulge and unwind. With its romantic atmosphere, elegant decor, and exceptional cuisine, Zinc is a must-visit destination in Port Douglas.

Overhyped and Underseasoned, a Far North Queensland Flop

I'm still trying to figure out what all the fuss is about concerning Zinc Restaurant in Port Douglas. The atmosphere, while elegantly decorated, felt overly romantic to the point of being awkward for a casual dinner with friends. The open-air layout, which I was initially excited about, turned out to be a nightmare due to the swarms of mosquitoes that seemed to enjoy our company more than we enjoyed the food. Speaking of which, the contemporary Australian cuisine with a European twist sounded promising, but the dishes we ordered were lackluster and underseasoned. I opted for the local seafood, expecting a burst of freshness, but it tasted more like it had been frozen for months. The cocktail bar, which boasted a wide selection, managed to mess up even the simplest of orders - a gin and tonic that tasted more like soda water with a splash of gin. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, but with such high expectations and prices to match, Zinc failed to deliver on nearly every front. For a restaurant that prides itself on using the best of local ingredients and having a 'sit back and relax' attitude, it was surprisingly stressful trying to get the attention of our server and rectify the issues with our meal. Unless they revamp their menu, service, and pest control, I'd say there are far better options in Port Douglas for a memorable dining experience.
