The Valley Nature Center, located in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley, is a 6-acre park that serves as a haven for native plants and animals. With over 35 years of dedication to environmental conservation, the center has successfully transplanted a wide variety of local plant species, creating a diverse ecosystem that supports both resident and migratory wildlife. The park's 1 mile of trails offers visitors the opportunity to explore and discover the unique flora and fauna of the region, including the Sabal Palm Grove, Arroyo Colorado Brush, the Barretal, Coastal Lomas, and the Chihuahuan Thorn Forest. As one of the top birding and butterfly destinations in the United States, the Valley Nature Center is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. The center is home to a wide range of species, including the Malachite and Pixie butterflies, Plain Chachalacas, Great Kiskadees, Buff-bellied Hummingbirds, Texas Tortoises, Eastern Cottontail Rabbits, and several lizard and amphibian species. As the oldest nature center in the Rio Grande Valley and the only non-profit center fully dedicated to environmental education south of San Antonio and east of Eagle Pass, the Valley Nature Center is committed to providing interactive and engaging educational experiences for visitors of all ages. Admission prices are $3.00 for children 12 and under, $6.00 for adults 13 and over, and $4.00 for seniors 55 and over, with free admission for VNC members.
