About This Business

Vales Point Power Station is a coal-fired power station located on the southern shore of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, near the township of Mannering Park. With a total generating capacity of 1,320MW of electricity, it is one of the two operating coal-fired power stations on the shores of Lake Macquarie. The power station has a rich history, dating back to its original equipment with three turbo-alternators supplied by English Electric and one by Associated Electrical Industries, with a total capacity of 875 MW. Over the years, the power station has undergone significant changes, including the addition of two Toshiba 660 MW units in 1978, known as 'B' Station, and the decommissioning of 'A' Station in 1989. In recent years, the power station has changed hands, with Delta Electricity selling it to Sunset Power International for $1 million in 2015, and subsequently being valued at $732 million in 2017. However, the value of the plant was cut to $156 million in 2021, with the owner citing the COVID-19 pandemic and an influx of cheaper renewables as reasons for the reduction. In 2022, the power station was sold to a Czech family investment group, Sev.En Global Investments. The power station is committed to reducing its environmental impact, with the NSW Environment Protection Authority issuing a direction to cut nitrogen oxides emissions by up to 35 per cent and imposing stricter monitoring and reporting conditions. With its significant generating capacity and commitment to environmental sustainability, Vales Point Power Station plays a crucial role in meeting the energy needs of New South Wales. The power station's history, operations, and commitment to sustainability make it an important part of the region's energy landscape. As the energy industry continues to evolve, Vales Point Power Station remains a key player in providing reliable and efficient energy to the community. The power station's ownership and operations are subject to regulatory oversight, ensuring that it operates in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. With its strong foundation and commitment to sustainability, Vales Point Power Station is well-positioned to continue serving the energy needs of New South Wales for years to come.

A Beacon of Reliability and Sustainability on Lake Macquarie's Shores

As someone who's always been fascinated by the intricacies of power generation and its impact on our environment, I was thrilled to learn more about Vales Point Power Station. With its rich history dating back to the original equipment supplied by English Electric and Associated Electrical Industries, it's clear that this coal-fired power station has been a cornerstone of New South Wales' energy landscape for decades. The addition of the Toshiba 660 MW units in 1978 and the subsequent changes in ownership, including the recent sale to Sev.En Global Investments, demonstrate the power station's ability to adapt and evolve with the times. What truly impresses me, however, is Vales Point's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. The NSW Environment Protection Authority's direction to cut nitrogen oxides emissions by up to 35 per cent is a significant step towards sustainability, and I applaud the power station's efforts to prioritize the well-being of our planet. As our energy needs continue to grow, it's heartening to see Vales Point Power Station at the forefront of providing reliable and efficient energy while minimizing its ecological impact. With its strong foundation, regulatory oversight, and dedication to environmental responsibility, I have no doubt that Vales Point will remain a vital part of our region's energy infrastructure for years to come. Whether you're an energy enthusiast like myself or simply someone who appreciates the importance of sustainable practices, Vales Point Power Station is definitely worth learning more about.
