A Space That Forgets the Solo Operator

I'll preface that my experience at Turbine Flats was unique, perhaps not the norm for their usual clientele, but as a solo freelancer, I found the environment to be somewhat alienating. The concept of Turbine Flats, with its collaborative spaces and community-driven ethos, sounds ideal for start-ups and small businesses looking to innovate and network. However, for someone like myself, who values flexibility and solitude, the space felt more like a bustling hub that overlooked the needs of the individual operator. The weekly Maker's Meetup and monthly First Fridays art shows, while intriguing, didn't quite align with my work schedule or personal interests. The crawfish boil, an event that seemed to excite many, was a cacophonous affair that made focusing on my tasks near impossible. The mission to create an 'Idea Community' is commendable, but it appears to lean heavily towards those who thrive in group settings, leaving solo workers like myself to navigate the space without the same level of support or consideration. Perhaps with more varied coworking plans or dedicated quiet spaces, Turbine Flats could better cater to its diverse membership, including those of us who prefer to work independently. Until then, I fear it may not be the best fit for every freelancer or small business owner, despite its rich history and unique amenities.
