June 05, 2025Rustic Charm Overshadowed by Lackluster Experience
I'm usually not one to write reviews, but my recent stay at the Squaw Valley Motel was a major letdown. As an avid hiker and nature enthusiast, I was excited to explore Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, and the motel's location seemed perfect. However, the reality was far from it. The room, although boasting a flat-screen TV and coffee maker, felt like a time capsule from the 50s - and not in a charming way. The bed creaked with every move, and the free WiFi was slower than a sloth on valium. The outdoor kitchen, which I was looking forward to using, was dirty and lacked basic utensils. The pool, although refreshing, was tiny and had a weird smell. What really got my goat was the lack of attention to detail and the overall feeling of neglect. For a motel that prides itself on its rich history and commitment to exceptional service, I expected a lot more. The staff seemed friendly but overwhelmed, and the management's promises of 'preserving the property's historic character while continually improving its facilities and services' felt like empty words. Unless they seriously revamp their amenities and services, I'd advise fellow travelers to look elsewhere for a comfortable and convenient stay. The natural beauty of the surrounding parks deserves better than a subpar motel experience.
