Disillusioned with the Rock

I attended Solid Rock Church Of God In Christ for a while, hoping to find a welcoming community and a deeper connection with my faith. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by what felt like a disconnect between the church's mission and its actual practices. The weekly worship services, while energetic, seemed more focused on performances than genuine spiritual growth. I tried to get involved in some of the community activities, but found the leadership to be somewhat inaccessible and more concerned with maintaining the status quo than truly listening to the needs and concerns of the congregation. The emphasis on giving and the various methods for tithes and offerings, including CashApp, Givelify, PayPal, and Zelle, felt overly pushy and commercialized, detracting from the spiritual experience. Despite the church's history and milestones, which are nicely documented in the PDF available on their website, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. Perhaps it was the lack of transparency in financial matters or the way some members seemed more interested in social status within the church than in serving the community. The mortgage burning ceremonies and women's conferences, while well-intentioned, felt like events designed to bolster the church's image rather than foster meaningful change. After a year of attendance, I decided it was time to look elsewhere for a community that aligns more closely with my values and provides a more authentic, less commercialized approach to faith and worship. Maybe Solid Rock Church Of God In Christ is the right fit for some, but for me, it was a disappointment.
