June 06, 2025A Church That Lost Its Way
I was really looking forward to attending the Oahu Church Of Christ, given its reputation as a welcoming and inclusive community. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected. The moment I walked in, I felt a sense of disconnection and lack of genuine warmth from the congregation. The ministries, which sounded so promising on paper, felt more like cliques than inclusive groups. The Marrieds Ministry, for instance, seemed to focus more on judging those who weren't married rather than providing meaningful support. The Singles Ministry wasn't much better, feeling like a matchmaking service rather than a space for spiritual growth. The sermons, which I had hoped would be inspiring and thought-provoking, came across as formulaic and lacking in depth. It was disappointing to see such potential for community and spiritual exploration squandered. Perhaps the church has become too comfortable in its routines and has forgotten how to truly serve and love its members and the broader community. Until they refocus on creating a genuinely inclusive and supportive environment, I fear they will continue to lose members and fail to live up to their mission.
