June 06, 2025A Lesson in Disappointment: Overpriced and Underwhelming
I must say, my experience at the National Wine Education & Training Centre was nothing short of disappointing. As a self-proclaimed wine enthusiast, I was excited to dive into their beginner's course, expecting to gain a deeper understanding of the world of wine. Unfortunately, the classes felt overly scripted, with instructors who seemed more interested in promoting local wines than actually teaching. The 'interactive sessions' they advertised were essentially just wine tastings with minimal explanation, and the 'comprehensive wine education' they promised was limited to surface-level information that I could have easily found online. For the price, I expected a far more immersive and engaging experience. Instead, I left feeling like I'd been sold a fancy bottle of wine with a cheap label. Perhaps the centre's 65-year history has made them complacent, but as a consumer, I expect more bang for my buck. Unless they revamp their curriculum and teaching style, I'd advise others to look elsewhere for their wine education.
