I'm still trying to process how a company with such a stellar reputation as Mike Ball Dive Expeditions could drop the ball so spectacularly. As an experienced diver, I was excited to explore the Great Barrier Reef with a pioneer in the industry, but what I got was a subpar experience that left me feeling frustrated and ripped off. The Spoilsport, their flagship vessel, felt dated and cramped, with a 'twin-hull design' that seemed more like a marketing gimmick than a genuine innovation. The 'open dive deck' policy, which I thought would be a major perk, ended up being a free-for-all that made it difficult to get any actual diving done. The crew, while friendly, seemed overwhelmed and disorganized, and the briefings were lackluster. But the real kicker was the food – I mean, who serves instant coffee on a luxury liveaboard? The diving itself was good, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't enough to make up for the myriad disappointments on board. With prices this high, I expect a lot more than just a 'fantastic holiday experience' – I expect excellence, and Mike Ball Dive Expeditions failed to deliver. Maybe it's time for this old dog to learn some new tricks, because right now, they're just resting on their laurels. 2/10, would not recommend.
