I'm usually not one to write reviews, but my experience with Melbourne Upper GI Surgical Group was thoroughly underwhelming. I had high hopes given their reputation and the breadth of services they offer, from laparoscopic hernia surgery to more complex procedures like POEM. However, from the initial consultation to the follow-up care, I felt like just another statistic rather than a patient in need of personalized care. The surgeons, Mr. Dean Spilias and A/Prof Geoff Kohn, seemed knowledgeable, but their bedside manner left much to be desired. It was as if they were too busy to truly listen to my concerns or explain my treatment options in a way that I could understand. The administrative staff were friendly, but the process of scheduling appointments and dealing with billing was cumbersome and often frustrating. Perhaps my expectations were too high, given the glowing reviews and the group's commitment to 'delivering exceptional patient outcomes.' Unfortunately, my experience did not align with their promises of 'hope and healing through advanced surgical techniques and compassionate care.' While I appreciate the effort to provide a broad range of services, including general surgical procedures and specialized care for diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract, the execution fell short for me. For a practice that operates out of multiple locations, including Knox Private Hospital and Cabrini Brighton Hospital, I expected a more streamlined and patient-centric approach. Unfortunately, Melbourne Upper GI Surgical Group did not meet my needs, and I would caution others to thoroughly research and consider their options before committing to care here.
