About This Business
Mariners Inn is a nonprofit agency that has been providing shelter, substance abuse treatment, and transitional housing for Detroit's homeless men and women since its founding in 1925. Originally established by the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan as the Detroit Protestant Episcopal City Mission Society, the organization has a long history of serving the poor and homeless in the Detroit area. In 1934, a building on Griswold was refitted as an Inn where lodging, food, and clothing were provided for those in need. Over the years, Mariners Inn has undergone significant transformations, including a move to its current location at Cass and Ledyard in 1955. Today, Mariners Inn is a leading treatment center, nationally acclaimed for its professional approach toward alleviating the problems of homelessness and substance abuse. The organization has taken a giant leap forward in addressing the affordable housing crisis for formerly homeless low-income men and women through a transformative construction project, The Anchor, which was made possible by a $25 million campaign initiated in 2019. This project has become a long-term solution for many homeless individuals in Wayne County. Mariners Inn is committed to providing a comprehensive range of services, including prevention programs such as S.H.E. (Strong, Healthy, Empowered), which aims to give young women a voice and support their development. With a strong focus on recovery and empowerment, Mariners Inn has become a beacon of hope for those struggling with homelessness and substance abuse. As the organization looks to the future, it continues to rely on the support of donors and partners to help raise funds for its programs and services, including a goal of raising $100,000 for 100 more years of hope. Through its work, Mariners Inn demonstrates a deep commitment to addressing the complex issues surrounding homelessness and substance abuse, and its efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals in the Detroit area.

June 06, 2025A Beacon of Hope for Detroit's Homeless Community
I've had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible work that Mariners Inn does for the homeless community in Detroit. As a long-time supporter, I've seen the organization evolve and grow, but its commitment to providing shelter, substance abuse treatment, and transitional housing has remained unwavering. The Anchor project is a game-changer, offering a long-term solution for individuals struggling with homelessness. I'm particularly impressed by the S.H.E. program, which empowers young women to find their voice and reach their full potential. The staff at Mariners Inn are dedicated, compassionate, and truly invested in the well-being of their clients. It's clear that they're not just providing services, but building a community of support and care. I'm proud to be a part of the Mariners Inn family and look forward to seeing the impact they'll continue to make in the years to come. If you're considering getting involved or making a donation, I say do it! Every dollar counts, and every volunteer hour makes a difference. Let's work together to raise $100,000 for 100 more years of hope and help Mariners Inn continue to shine as a beacon of light in the darkness.
