June 09, 2025Unfulfilled Promises from a Once Trusted Name
I'm writing this review with a heavy heart because I've always believed in the Louisiana SPCA's mission and have supported them for years. However, my recent experiences have left me feeling disappointed and disillusioned. Despite their rich history and reputation, it seems like they've lost sight of what's truly important - the animals. I've volunteered at their main facility on Mardi Gras Blvd, and while the staff is friendly, the organization as a whole seems to be more focused on fundraising and publicity rather than actually making a difference in the community. The Community Clinic, which I've used in the past, has become increasingly expensive, and the quality of care has decreased. I've also noticed that they're more interested in adopting out animals quickly rather than ensuring they're going to good homes. I've seen instances where animals are adopted out to people who clearly aren't prepared to care for them, and it's heartbreaking. The Humane Law & Rescue team, which I thought was one of their strongest programs, seems to be understaffed and underfunded. I've reported instances of animal neglect and abuse, only to be met with a lack of follow-up or action. It's disheartening to see an organization that was once a beacon of hope for animals in Louisiana struggle so much. Unless they refocus their efforts on the animals and the community, I'm afraid they'll continue to lose the trust of their supporters. I hope that someone from the Louisiana SPCA will read this and take my criticisms to heart, but until then, I'll be taking my support (and donations) elsewhere.
