Kinship, Adoptive, and Foster Parent Association (KAFPA)
About This Business
The Kinship, Adoptive, and Foster Parent Association (KAFPA) of Santa Clara County is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources and advocating for the needs of kinship, adoptive, and foster families in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since its inception in 1989, KAFPA has been committed to supporting these families through various programs and services. One of its notable initiatives is a specialized mentoring program that pairs foster and adopted youth with adult mentors who have had similar experiences, fostering a sense of community and understanding. KAFPA works tirelessly to offer the best resources and events tailored to the unique needs of kinship, adoptive, and foster families in the region. With a strong mission to work together to provide resources and advocate for the needs of foster and adoptive families, KAFPA has established itself as a leading support system. The organization serves over 300 foster, kinship, and adoptive parents and approximately 1,600 foster, kinship, adoptive, and biological children, demonstrating its extensive reach and impact. KAFPA's services include youth programming, family programming, educational training opportunities on parenting and CPR, and first aid. Additionally, the organization engages in policy advocacy at both the individual and community levels, ensuring that the voices of foster families are heard and their needs are addressed. Most of KAFPA's activities take place at its resource center and clothing closet storage area, although some events are hosted at other sites, reflecting the organization's adaptability and commitment to accessibility. Through its efforts, KAFPA aims to create a supportive environment where kinship, adoptive, and foster families can thrive. By becoming a member of KAFPA, individuals can contribute to this mission and benefit from the organization's resources and network. As KAFPA continues to grow and expand its services, it remains dedicated to its core values of support, advocacy, and community, making a tangible difference in the lives of those it serves.

June 06, 2025Underwhelming Experience with KAFPA
I've been involved with the Kinship, Adoptive, and Foster Parent Association (KAFPA) of Santa Clara County for a while now, and unfortunately, my experience has been quite disappointing. As someone who's passionate about supporting foster and adoptive families, I was excited to join an organization that shares my values. However, I've found that KAFPA's resources and services, although well-intentioned, often fall short of expectations. The mentoring program, which I thought would be a highlight, has been disorganized and lacking in meaningful connections. I've also noticed that the organization's events, while plentiful, tend to be repetitive and don't always address the unique needs of our community. I appreciate the effort KAFPA puts into policy advocacy, but I believe more could be done to amplify the voices of foster families in our area. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but as a member, I was hoping for a more supportive environment and better resources. Instead, I've found myself seeking help from other organizations that seem more in tune with the needs of kinship, adoptive, and foster families. I hope KAFPA will take feedback like mine to heart and work on improving their services to better support our community.
