I stopped by Kalalou with high hopes, craving that authentic Caribbean flavor I grew up with. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown from the start. The ambiance, while upscale, felt somewhat sterile and lacked the warmth I've come to associate with Caribbean culture. Our server seemed friendly but was clearly overwhelmed, taking ages to take our orders and forgetting one of our appetizers. The real disappointment, however, was the food. I ordered the jerk chicken, expecting that bold, aromatic flavor they boast about. What I got was a dish that was underseasoned and overcooked. The 'bold aromatic flavors' promised in their menu were noticeably absent, replaced by a generic, mass-produced taste that didn't resonate with the Caribbean cuisine I know and love. For a restaurant that prides itself on using the freshest ingredients and providing an authentic experience, Kalalou fell short. Perhaps it was an off day, but my visit did not live up to the hype. With so many amazing Caribbean restaurants in Orlando, I wouldn't rush back to Kalalou unless they revisit their recipes and service standards.
