I'm still trying to process the underwhelming experience I had at Jack's Surfboards in Huntington Beach. As a surfer who's been around the block a few times, I was expecting a lot more from this renowned shop. Unfortunately, my visit was a major letdown. The staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than helping me find the right gear. I asked for a recommendation on a new wetsuit, and the guy just shrugged and told me to 'check out the website.' Um, I'm standing in your store, dude. I was hoping for some expert advice, not a sales pitch. The selection of surfboards was pretty lackluster too. I was looking for something specific, and they didn't have it in stock. No big deal, right? Except the sales guy made a big deal about how they could 'special order' it for me, and then proceeded to upsell me on a bunch of other stuff I didn't need. It felt super pushy and insincere. I've been to plenty of other surf shops in the area that have way better customer service and more knowledgeable staff. Jack's Surfboards might have a rich history and a cool reputation, but my experience was straight out of a bad surf movie. Maybe they're just resting on their laurels, but I won't be back to find out. One star from me, and that's being generous.
