I've lived in Grey County for over 5 years now, and I have to say, the hype doesn't quite match the reality. As a local, I've seen the county's focus shift more towards attracting tourists than supporting its own residents. The Blue Mountain Resort is always crowded, and the prices are through the roof. The Bruce Trail is beautiful, but it's not like it's unique to Grey County - you can find similar trails all over Ontario. The agricultural sector is thriving, but it's mostly big farms and not much support for small, local growers. The county's website boasts about its diverse economy, but in reality, it's mostly manufacturing and not a lot of opportunities for entrepreneurs or small business owners. The community events are nice, but they're always the same thing - the Grey County Fall Fair, the Owen Sound Festival of Northern Lights... it gets old after a while. The Economic Development team seems more interested in attracting new businesses than helping existing ones grow. Overall, I'd say Grey County is a nice place to visit, but not necessarily to live or do business. The natural beauty is undeniable, but the county's got a long way to go in terms of supporting its residents and local economy.
