June 05, 2025Disappointing Experience with Lack of Follow-Through
I was really looking forward to enrolling my child in the Fresno EOC Head Start program, given its reputation for comprehensive support services. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by disorganization and a lack of communication. The initial application process was lengthy and confusing, with multiple callbacks and emails required just to get basic information. Once enrolled, the Center Base option we chose had a nice facility, but the class schedules were not as flexible as advertised, causing us to adjust our entire routine. What was most disappointing, however, was the lack of follow-through on promised services, particularly in the area of disability support. Despite assurances that our child's specific needs would be met, we found the actual support to be inconsistent and sometimes completely absent. The Home Base option, which we considered as an alternative, also had its drawbacks, including difficulty in scheduling home visits and a sense that the program was not fully equipped to handle the unique challenges of in-home service delivery. While I appreciate the mission and goals of Fresno EOC Head Start, and the dedication of some of its staff, our overall experience was one of frustration and disappointment. With some improvements in communication, consistency, and follow-through on promised services, I believe this program could truly make a positive impact. Until then, I would caution other families to carefully consider their options and not hesitate to advocate for their needs.
