June 05, 2025Disappointing Experience at First Church
I visited First United Methodist Church in downtown Wichita with an open mind, but unfortunately, my experience was underwhelming. As someone who values inclusivity and respect for all individuals, I was surprised to find that the congregation seemed somewhat cliquish and unwelcoming to newcomers. The worship service, while well-organized, felt formulaic and lacking in depth. The message of hope and love, which I had expected to be a central theme, felt more like an afterthought. What struck me most, however, was the disconnect between the church's stated commitment to respecting and affirming all individuals and the actual experience of attending a service. It felt like there was a lot of talk about being inclusive, but not much follow-through. Perhaps I just caught them on a bad day, but as someone who is still exploring their faith journey, I didn't feel particularly inspired or motivated to return. With so many other options available, I'm not sure I'll be back.
