Disillusioned with the System

As a parent, I had high hopes for Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS), given their mission and promises. Unfortunately, my experience has been underwhelming. The district's focus on being 'future and life ready' seems to fall short when it comes to preparing students for real-world challenges. I've seen a lack of emphasis on practical skills, such as financial literacy and time management, which are essential for success. The competitions like the KET Contest are great, but they seem to cater to a specific subset of students, leaving others feeling left out. The athletic program is impressive, but I've noticed that it often takes precedence over academic achievements. The district's leadership, including Superintendent Liggins, seems more focused on responding to external pressures than actually addressing the needs of the students and teachers. I've attended several events and ceremonies, including the dedication of new facilities, but they feel more like PR stunts than genuine celebrations of student success. The National Merit Scholarships are a testament to the hard work of individual students, but I worry that the district is more interested in boasting about these achievements than actually supporting the students who need it most. Overall, I'm disappointed in the disconnect between FCPS's mission and its actual implementation. It feels like the district is more concerned with appearances than genuinely providing a high-quality education to all its students.
