I recently had the opportunity to engage with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Melbourne, and unfortunately, my experience was underwhelming, to say the least. As a prospective student, I was excited to explore the various disciplines and flexible study options that the faculty offers. However, upon delving deeper, I found the administrative processes to be cumbersome and the staff, although renowned, seemed more focused on their research projects than on providing a supportive learning experience. The facilities, while touted as world-class, felt dated and in need of renovation. The location in Melbourne's Arts Precinct is undoubtedly inspiring, but it couldn't compensate for the lack of personalized attention and outdated infrastructure. For an institution that prides itself on fostering creativity, innovation, and excellence, I found the overall atmosphere to be surprisingly stifling.
