About This Business
The Chicago Park District's Union Park is a 13.77-acre park located in the Near West Community Area of Chicago, Illinois. The park features a fieldhouse with a theater room, meeting rooms, and a separate building that houses a gymnasium, fitness center, and locker rooms. Outdoor amenities include tennis courts, baseball fields, a swimming pool, a playground, an athletic field for football or soccer, and basketball courts. Many of these spaces are available for rental, and the park offers various programs and events throughout the year, such as seasonal sports, afterschool programs, and summer day camps. Union Park also hosts special events like Night Out in the Parks concerts, movie screenings, and the Pitchfork Music Festival. The park has a rich history, dating back to 1853 when it was created by the City of Chicago after residents convinced developers to sell 13 acres of their subdivision at a reduced price. The park was named in honor of the Federal Union and was one of the city's most fashionable places. Over the years, Union Park has undergone significant changes and has become a culturally and socially significant hub in the community. In recent years, the park has received upgrades, including the addition of new tennis and pickleball courts, playground resurfacing, pathway paving, and new lighting. The Chicago Park District has invested $1 million in these upgrades, demonstrating its commitment to providing high-quality recreational facilities and programs to the community. Today, Union Park continues to be a vibrant and inclusive space, offering something for everyone, from sports and fitness to arts and culture. Whether you're a local resident or just visiting, Union Park is a must-visit destination in Chicago.

June 06, 2025Pitchfork Festival Chaos: A Disappointing Experience at Union Park
I've been to Union Park a handful of times, but my latest visit during the Pitchfork Music Festival was a letdown. As a long-time fan of the festival, I was excited to see some of my favorite artists perform live. However, the experience was marred by disorganization and poor management. The lines for food and drinks were ridiculously long, and the staff seemed overwhelmed. I waited for over an hour just to get a water bottle, only to find out that they were out of stock. The sound quality during the performances was also subpar, with noticeable audio delays and distortions. I was looking forward to enjoying the music, but the technical issues made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the experience. The park's amenities, such as the tennis courts and playground, seemed well-maintained, but the festival itself felt like a missed opportunity. With a little more planning and attention to detail, Union Park could have truly shone as a vibrant and inclusive space. Unfortunately, my experience was more frustrating than enjoyable. Maybe next time, Union Park?
