About This Business
The Catherine McAuley Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those experiencing homelessness in Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) through a comprehensive range of housing programs, case management, and supportive services. With a mission to provide a safety net for individuals and families in need, the center offers a variety of programs tailored to address the unique challenges of homelessness in the region. The Family Support Program, led by case managers using a strengths-based approach, assesses the needs of those facing housing instability and provides resources and referrals to help them get back on their feet. The Emergency Shelter program offers a temporary place to stay for families, including those of all compositions in Lackawanna County and women with children in Luzerne County, for up to 30 days. For single women earning an income, the Housing for Women transitional housing program provides not only a place to live but also case management support to help them achieve stability and independence. The Women's Re-Entry program is specifically designed for women leaving incarceration, offering housing and supportive services to help them reintegrate into society. Additionally, the center's Housing Programs provide rental assistance and case management to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, aiming to help them secure permanent housing. Beyond housing, the Catherine McAuley Center also operates a Food Pantry, open several days a week, which is a satellite pantry of Friends of the Poor, and a Period Project that provides menstrual health items at no cost, advocates for the removal of stigma around periods, and educates about period poverty. During the holiday season, in partnership with other local agencies, the center ensures that families in need receive gifts. Through these programs and services, the Catherine McAuley Center demonstrates its commitment to addressing the complex issues surrounding homelessness and poverty, striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves. With a focus on empowerment, support, and compassion, the center works towards a future where everyone in NEPA has access to safe, stable, and secure housing.

I've had the privilege of volunteering at the Catherine McAuley Center, and I must say, it's been a truly life-changing experience. The dedication and compassion of the staff are palpable, and their commitment to serving those experiencing homelessness in NEPA is inspiring. The range of programs and services they offer is impressive, from the Family Support Program to the Housing for Women transitional housing program, each one tailored to address the unique needs of the individuals and families they serve. What struck me most, however, was the emphasis on empowerment and support. The center doesn't just provide a safety net; it offers a springboard for people to get back on their feet and rebuild their lives. The Food Pantry and Period Project are just a couple of examples of the center's holistic approach to addressing poverty and homelessness. I've seen firsthand the impact that these programs have on people's lives, and it's nothing short of remarkable. The Catherine McAuley Center is a shining example of what can be achieved when compassion, empathy, and determination come together. If you're looking for a way to make a difference in your community, I highly recommend getting involved with this incredible organization.
