The Catherine McAuley Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those experiencing homelessness in Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) through a comprehensive range of housing programs, case management, and supportive services. With a mission to provide a safety net for individuals and families in need, the center offers a variety of programs tailored to address the unique challenges of homelessness in the region. The Family Support Program, led by case managers using a strengths-based approach, assesses the needs of those facing housing instability and provides resources and referrals to help them get back on their feet. The Emergency Shelter program offers a temporary place to stay for families, including those of all compositions in Lackawanna County and women with children in Luzerne County, for up to 30 days. For single women earning an income, the Housing for Women transitional housing program provides not only a place to live but also case management support to help them achieve stability and independence. The Women's Re-Entry program is specifically designed for women leaving incarceration, offering housing and supportive services to help them reintegrate into society. Additionally, the center's Housing Programs provide rental assistance and case management to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, aiming to help them secure permanent housing. Beyond housing, the Catherine McAuley Center also operates a Food Pantry, open several days a week, which is a satellite pantry of Friends of the Poor, and a Period Project that provides menstrual health items at no cost, advocates for the removal of stigma around periods, and educates about period poverty. During the holiday season, in partnership with other local agencies, the center ensures that families in need receive gifts.
