I reckon I've been to my fair share of motels in the Wild West, but The Big Sky Motel in Roundup, Montana, was a mighty letdown. The website made it sound like a regular ol' time, with its 'authentic charm' and 'gateway to the rich history' and all, but the reality was more like a dusty relic of the past. First off, the rooms were smaller than a cattle pen, and the beds were about as comfortable as a bed of nails. The 'weathered barns' and 'abandoned homesteads' they touted were just old buildings that looked like they hadn't been fixed up in years. And don't even get me started on the 'breathtaking natural scenery' – the Lake Mason National Wildlife Refuge was a nice spot, I'll give 'em that, but it was a right proper hike to get there, and the motel didn't even offer no shuttle service. The 'warm hospitality' was also a bit of a myth, as the staff seemed about as friendly as a grizzly bear with a sore tooth. Now, I know what you're thinkin', 'Buckaroo, why're you bein' so hard on the little motel?' And I'll tell you why: it's because they promised the moon and delivered a handful of dust.
