The Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit (BPRU) at Johns Hopkins is a world-leading site in the science of psychoactive drugs and behavior. Study participants include volunteers with a variety of substance use histories as well as healthy volunteers. Located on the Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus in the Behavioral Biology Research Center, the BPRU has resources for conducting human trials with a wide variety of psychoactive drugs, making it one of the few research sites in the world to do so. The BPRU is also the site for a T32 post-doctoral training program funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), which has operated for over 35 years, and offers a Student Internship Program designed to provide direct experience in behavioral pharmacology and human research studies to interested students and recent graduates. By exploring the complex interactions between psychoactive substances and human behavior, the BPRU aims to develop novel psychoactive therapeutics and improve treatments for substance use disorders.
