June 06, 2025More Hype Than Substance, Sadly
I stopped by Barrio Glassworks expecting an immersive experience, but what I got was a lot of hype with little substance. The open viewing area was cramped, and the glassblowing process, while intriguing at first, became repetitive after a while. I was looking forward to the 'Make Your Own' sessions, but the instructors seemed overwhelmed, and the whole process felt rushed. The artwork on display was impressive, but the prices were steep, and I didn't feel like I was getting a unique piece considering the mass production vibe. The location in Carlsbad Village is great, but parking was a nightmare. Maybe I visited on an off day, but for the prices they're charging, I expected a lot more. The mailing list and Instagram updates seem to be more about self-promotion than actually engaging with the community. Overall, it felt like Barrio Glassworks is more focused on being a trendy spot than providing a genuine glassblowing experience. Definitely not worth the trip for me.
