I walked into Bakers Delight in Gympie with high hopes, craving something that would satisfy my sweet tooth and remind me of my grandmother's baking. Unfortunately, what I got was a letdown that rivaled the Great Barrier Reef in terms of depth. The scones, which I was most looking forward to, were as dry as the Australian outback. Flaky crusts that shattered like broken dreams, and the flavor? Non-existent. It was like they took all the excitement of baking, put it in a mixer, and hit puree until it was just a bland, unfulfilling mess. The pizzas, or what they called pizzas, were an insult to the good name of Italian cuisine. It was like a flavor bomb had gone off, but instead of deliciousness, it was a dud. I didn't sign up to be a 'Dough Getter' because, frankly, I don't think I'd want the 'privilege' of consistently disappointment. With so many other bakeries doing it right, Bakers Delight needs to go back to the drawing board, or should I say, the recipe book. Until then, I'll be taking my business (and my taste buds) elsewhere.
