I'm still trying to process the disappointment I felt after a year at Backstage Dance Academy. As someone who's always been passionate about dance, I was excited to join a school that promised a supportive environment and comprehensive training. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. The classes, although numerous, felt disorganized, and the instructors seemed more focused on preparing students for competitions rather than helping them develop as dancers. I was initially drawn to BDA's emphasis on life skills like independence, confidence, and resilience, but in reality, I found the atmosphere to be more cutthroat than 'chillaxed.' The facility, while state-of-the-art, was often overcrowded, making it difficult to get the attention and feedback I needed. What bothered me the most, however, was the lack of personal growth I experienced. Despite the academy's mission to foster confidence and independence, I left feeling less confident in my abilities than when I started. For a school that prides itself on being a 'second home' to its students, I felt surprisingly disconnected from the community. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I believe that a dance school should inspire and nurture its students, not leave them feeling lost and uncertain about their passion for dance. Unless significant changes are made to address these issues, I would caution potential students to carefully consider their options before joining Backstage Dance Academy.
