I stumbled upon Appropriate Footwear expecting a robust platform that would reignite my passion for the outdoors and perhaps introduce me to some innovative, practical footwear solutions. What I found instead was a site that seemed more focused on showcasing eclectic stories and artistic expressions than providing tangible value to outdoor enthusiasts. The narrative, while beautifully woven, felt disjointed and failed to deliver on its promise of celebrating the intersection of nature, travel, and human experience in a meaningful way. The bespoke rucksacks by James Kamo were a highlight, but even those felt like an afterthought, tacked on to the platform as an attempt to appeal to the practical side of outdoor enthusiasts without truly integrating them into the overall narrative. As someone who values both style and functionality, especially in adventure gear, I was disappointed to find that Appropriate Footwear fell short in bridging the gap between these two worlds effectively. Until then, it feels like a beautifully designed, yet hollow, shell of what it could be.
