I'm not gonna sugarcoat it - my experience with A.A. was a total letdown. As someone who's struggled with addiction, I thought I'd found a supportive community, but what I got was a bunch of outdated principles and judgmental 'sponsors'. The meetings felt like a cult, with everyone spouting the same clichés and pretending to be something they're not. I mean, who uses the term 'higher power' unironically in 2023? The whole thing felt like a bad AA meeting parody - all the clichés, none of the substance. And don't even get me started on the 'sharing' part. It's all just a bunch of people talking about themselves, with no real listening or support. I felt like I was in a never-ending loop of 'share your story, but don't actually expect anyone to care'. The 'fellowship' aspect is just a myth - it's every addict for themselves, with a pat on the back and a 'keep coming back' as a consolation prize. Save your time, folks. If you're looking for real support, keep looking. This place is all about lip service and broken promises.
