I recently had the misfortune of visiting the Infusion and Sedation Center at Akron Children's Hospital with my child, and unfortunately, our experience was marred by long wait times and a general sense of disorganization. Despite the hospital's touted commitment to family-centered care, we felt more like numbers than people. The staff, while friendly, seemed overwhelmed and struggled to keep us informed about what was happening. The state-of-the-art facilities were impressive, but the care itself lacked the personal touch we've come to expect from healthcare providers. Perhaps most concerning was the lack of clear communication regarding my child's treatment plan and the potential side effects of the medication. As a parent, it's terrifying to feel like you're not being heard or that your child's needs are being neglected. While I appreciate the hospital's mission to provide exceptional care, our experience suggested that there's still significant work to be done to live up to that promise. Until then, I would caution other families to approach with caution and to be their own advocates, as we certainly had to be.
